Highlighting unknown, obscure or simply excellent musicians

A small personal website with the aim to share detailed release information for a number of artists, but also to highlight some items from my collection

Previous Stuff

  • It is time for an early Sunday morning update featuring UCHUSENTAI:NOIZ. They released a new compilation album in Philippines on August the 2nd called LEGEND OF THE ROCK’N’ROLL HEROES which features new versions of two previously released songs plus a DVD with videos.

  • Better late than never! This update contains Mumm-Ra’s latest release Back To The Shore which was issued digitally in February this year and recently on CD in Japan. Check here all the details.

  • Well that is a nice surprise. I just stumbled upon a Japanese CD copy of Mumm-Ra‘s mini album Back To The Shore which was apparently released on June the 4th. Hope to add it in the next few weeks, together with the initial digital release which was issued in February of this year.

  • Well here you go. I just added two releases by Lovelife. The first one is their latest digital-only single release called Angel. The second release is a bit more interesting, although it does not contain any new music, being XXX which is another tour-only CD from March this year.

  • It’s been a while since I found a nice uncommon release by メトロノーム but a few weeks ago I stumbled upon their first CDr which was handed out during a concert in Japan on December 9th 2000, almost 14 years ago. It features a song called アリガト and comes with no artwork.

  • Remember how surprised I was last year when an unseen Mirrors promo hit the internet? Well, it happened again and, by coincidence, for the same single! Last year it was a Dutch CDr promo for Into The Heart, today it is a variant of the (common) UK promo CD which comes with full artwork versus a white disc with minimum artwork.

    Queen US shop display

Queen were on a roll during the early 80’s. They had a massive hit under their belt with the album The Game in 1980 and released a nice soundtrack album a few months later for Flash Gordon. In November 1981 they released their first compilation album called Greatest Hits, featuring most of their singles. It became an instant success and has to date sold over 25 million copies world wide!

In order to promote the album, some nice marketing items were made including, but not limited to, posters and promotional copies of the album itself. Besides those items, the US had a mobile shop display which is featured in the photo. It measures 37x37cm/14.5×14.5in in size and the logo, album title and group photo are cut out and tied together with some strings. This allows the outer edge to move and rotate separately from the two inner parts, making a nice effect when in motion.

A lot of copies were returned or binned after the promotional period ended, making this a hard to find item these days. In fact, this is arguably true for most shop displays so grab it if you find one!
