Highlighting unknown, obscure or simply excellent musicians

A small personal website with the aim to share detailed release information for a number of artists, but also to highlight some items from my collection

  • Latest & Greatest

Artwork for four albums by メトロノーム or featuring songs by メトロノーム has finally been added to the website. The albums are:

All album artwork should now be available on the website for this band!

Previous Stuff

  • All メトロノーム CD’s came in this week, so it is now time for me to digest, rip and scan them all.

The first two have already been added being the 2003 3″ CD-single featuring ドクター and the 2006 CD シンセカイ. Both feature otherwise unreleased demo recordings!

  • It’s been 12 years since I launched this website (on the 30th of January 2012 to be precise). Four months later, on the 26th of May, I already updated its design and used it ever since.

A lot has happened in the world of website designs, but also when it comes to creating and maintaining a website. This website was showing its age. I already toyed with the idea to make it a bit more modern for at least 2 years, but never went for it until recently.

It wasn’t easy as I am not a professional and rarely update the site these days, so I have little experience or interest to stay relevant. This meant I had to delve into the world of WordPress (the platform I chose this time) and learn it the hard way.

Long story short, I hope you like it and once again enjoy your stay!

Besides a new look I also added missing releases, scans and information where possible. Especially メトロノーム got a nice boost!

  • Just as with メトロノーム, while re-designing this website, I took the time to make changes for UCHUSENTAI:NOIZ‘s entry. I re-scanned artwork for EGO-style, TERRA, CUBE, GREAT ROCK’N’ROLL HEROES, Sixxx Sense and 宇宙戦隊プラズマ☆アミューズメント.

While buying stuff for メトロノーム, I stumbled upon two Japanese auctions with strange NOIZ CD’s so I bought those. I have no idea what they are, but will add them once the package has arrived and they are suitable for the website!

  • While re-designing this website, I took the time to make some big changes for メトロノーム ‘s entry. I basically re-scanned artwork for some releases and added missing releases, including albums 5th狂逸インパクト and 阿吽回廊, singles 阿ッとして吽 and 箱庭空間 and miscellaneous releases 誰のせい and 致死量フリーク 症例・2. Their discography should now be more complete then ever!

I have furthermore bought 13 older releases including the last missing singles, albums and some nice miscellaneous stuff. Scans will be added once the package has arrived!

  • Out of nowhere Angel-TAKA announced on Instagram that UCHUSENTAI:NOIZ will continue as a new formation under the name Neu:NOIZ!

Further details are unknown, including any new band members, but their first gig will be on the 29th of June in Tokyo! Wouldn’t it be something when at least TAKEswiy returned to the band…?

I now need to contemplate about whether I will add this incarnation under UCHUSENTAI:NOIZ or as a new band…

  • Mumm-Ra are starting to develop a feeling for out-of-the-blue releases. In 2013 and 2014 they dropped a single and mini-album out of nowhere. Then a compilation album in 2020 and now, TODAY, they dropped a new single called called washout. Now available on all major platforms!

    Genesis The Knife 7″

As shown in the previous post, I have a special place in my heart for Genesis. I knew some of their hits, but took a deep dive around late 2001 by starting to listen to albums such as Duke, A Trick Of The Tail and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. It didn’t take long before I was completely hooked and yes, I like all eras!

It was clear to me from the start that their early singles weren’t big hits and thus rare or hard to find. It was therefore always a dream for me to own just one or two Gabriel-era singles (up to 1974).

In the past few years I was able to obtain Happy The Man and Watcher Of The Skies with picture sleeves on 7″, but The Knife was still high on the list.

That single was finally removed from the list on 13 April 2024 when I was able to buy it from a collector and picked it up at the world’s largest record fair in Den Bosch, NL. It is a great looking copy, especially when considering that it is 53 years old (released in 1971)!

This was the first Genesis single in the UK with a picture sleeve and it is a curious one, since Phil and Steve are not featured on the recording, though they are in the band photo. The single only features one song, The Knife, split across two sides, where it simply cuts the song off after 3:16 minutes on the A-side and continues for the remaining 5:39 minutes on the B-side. No fading, nothing. The 2007 remix of The Knife on The Tour Edition compilation Turn It On Again fades out at the end, making it not a true rendition of Part 1.
